Here's a little mantis I found on one of my abutilons:

I have too many in my yard this year, though! My love for mantids is grappling with my love for butterflies, and the mantids seem to be winning. I have very few butterflies so far this season, but I see a mantid nearly every 3' in the garden. I am thinking about moving some of the mantids to the schoolyard next door. Think they will just come right back?

..... Oh my god, would you consider catching some and sending them to me (I live in Seattle)? I've wanted pet mantises again for so. long.

Unfortunately I don't think a live mantis would ship very well, especially that far. I'm also not sure it is legal. However, there are a lot of mail order companies that sell praying mantis egg cases for releasing in the garden. You could order some of these and keep a mantis or two to raise yourself.
